The what and why....

A Women's Circle/Group is an ancient, cross-cultural gathering where women historically met around a fire or a sacred space – as far back as 300,00 years ago. They shared wisdom and synced with natures cycles. They provided community, safety and empowerment.

In the 70s the groups re-appeared primarily for political awareness. Recently there has been a rebirth as an ‘remedy to modern isolation and continuation of feminine solidarity’.

I first heard of them when I visited the Happy Place festival last year and listened to Kirsty Gallagher talking about her sisterhood/solstice women's circle. Although some of what Kirsty talked about was alien to me, a lot of it resonated with me. It hit deep. It’s been sitting with me since, as I know it has with a few other people I’ve talked to about this.

I’ve been thinking about why it has been sitting with me for so long. It has been not finding time, waiting for the right time maybe, learning – for those of you who know me, you will know I wouldn’t do this without lots of investigation; I am the perpetual student. Some of it has honestly been fear, it’s not easy reaching out, you let yourself become vulnerable to other peoples comments. Something I have personally been working on over the years.

I have also been reflecting on why I felt the draw to start a womens group (the word group sits a little better with me visually). I meet and chat with a lot of people who feel they are not heard, seen or understood. With my practice I can support people for an hour or two a week (or whatever the frequency). Aswell as supporting them, I also learn from them. We share with each other unconditionally. What if we could do this on a greater scale (having more than one person in the room at the same time), sharing, creating change, creating connection, being heard, seen and held.

People are holding onto a lot of things, especially at the moment. These things (emotions, feeling, thoughts…. whatever) might be about ourselves or the people close to us in our lives and maybe even things that are happening in the world (and there is a lot).

Imagine coming together once a month for an hour and a half with people who also want to feel held, heard and seen. A space where sharing happens, connection, a place for self care, gratitude, growth and without sounding too fluffy (although that is me) a sense of love. A place to be together.

Some Information

A little more information about what to expect from the Womens Group and what to not expect. These are not set in stone, they are a starter for 10 and will evolve.

What it is

A time to come together as a group to share, feel stronger through connection, learn in the hope that you might setup your own Womens Group. It is a non-judgemental, confidential space (what goes on in womens group stays in womens group). We will take turns to share.

What it is not

It isn't a bootcamp, bitching session and we do not give advice (it's not a counselling session). It is not political. It is not for a single individual to dictate or control the outcome.

Your responsibility

This is your session, it is a good idea to prepare. Everyone's perspective is important so you need to think about your own biases and triggers. What are your boundaries within the group. If someone talks about a topic you know will affect you emotionally then be prepared to leave.... it will be OK for you to leave when you feel the need.
