Fear and Phobias

Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger—if we didn't feel it, we couldn't protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and it stops us from moving forward. Exposing yourself to fear is the best way to move past any long held emotions. You must have heard the saying ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’?

Sometimes the fear of moving into the unknown is greater than the pain you are feeling now. Is this true of you?

Fear can be a very debilitating emotion. There is a healthy level of fear that we all need for basic survival but some people allow fear to rule their lives. This can take a person to the 'depths of despair’ and keep people chained to a life that is full pain, guilt and regrets.

Fear will also cause you to lose out on many other things in life. This holds true in all areas of life. If you are afraid of your spouse or partner or friend leaving you, chances are you could make it happen with constant insecurities and low self-esteem; which again are the outcomes of fear.

If you fear your boss, it will naturally be on your mind day in and day out. It will eventually wear you down and you could begin making mistakes on the job. You could become depressed and build up resentments that may have never been there in the first place. If you have a specific fear about your boss or in fact anyone in your life, why don’t you ask them about it? It takes guts, but isn't it better than putting yourself through many months of agonising torture?

Complaining is also an act that emotionally drains you and goes hand-in-hand with fear. In fact, fear is normally the root of any complaint. People don't want to admit their fear, so they will complain to release some tension. Is this something you find yourself doing? Instead of complaining, try to find ways to solve the problem. Unfortunately, people find that excuses or a reason why you can’t do something is always so much easier than finding reasons why you can do something.

Can emotional pain be re-opened and do we feel fear from things that happened to us in early childhood or even in past lives? I believe we do, we hang onto the negative emotions that occur during specific events in our lives (fear is only one of the negative emotions we hold onto). What we should do is let go of the emotion and learn the lesson.
