Women's Circles – The What and The Why

Women's circles have existed in different forms throughout history, bringing women together to share experiences, wisdom, support and connection.

During the 1970s, women's groups became an important space for raising awareness, sharing experiences and encouraging change. More recently, women's circles have experienced a resurgence, offering an opportunity to reconnect in a world where many people feel increasingly isolated.

I first heard about women's circles when I visited the Happy Place Festival and listened to Kirsty Gallagher talking about her sisterhood and solstice circles. Although some of what Kirsty talked about was completely alien to me, much of it resonated. In fact, it hit quite deep. Something about it stayed with me, and I know from conversations since that I'm not the only one.

I felt drawn to the idea of creating a women's circle of my own.

Through my wellbeing practice, I meet and talk with many people who don't always feel heard, seen or understood. I have the privilege of supporting them, listening to their experiences and learning from them too.

It made me wonder what might happen if we brought women together in a space where they could share experiences, listen to one another, learn from different perspectives and simply connect.

We all carry things with us. Thoughts, feelings, worries, experiences and emotions. Some are about ourselves, some about the people in our lives, and others about the world around us. Sometimes we just need somewhere to put them into words, without fear of judgement or feeling that we need to have all the answers.

So, imagine coming together once a month, for an hour and a half, with a small group of women.

A welcoming space to share, listen, reflect and connect. Somewhere to feel heard, seen and understood. A place for kindness, self-care, gratitude, personal growth and, without sounding too fluffy (although that is me!), a little love.

No pressure to share. No expectation to have everything figured out. Just women coming together with openness, compassion and respect.

A place to be together.

Is this for me?

Perhaps you're looking for connection, a little time for yourself, or simply an opportunity to sit with other women and share experiences.

Maybe you're curious about different perspectives, enjoy meaningful conversations or have something you've learned along the way that might help someone else.

You might have lots to share, or you might prefer to listen. You might be navigating changes in your life, or you might be perfectly content with where you are.

There is no particular reason you need to have for coming.

Just a willingness to be part of something where we can listen, learn, support and grow together.

Come as you are. There's a place for you in the circle.

What it is

A small, welcoming group of women coming together to share experiences, listen, reflect and connect.

A space where we can learn from one another, explore different perspectives and share ideas and techniques that may help us in everyday life.

A place where kindness, confidentiality, mutual respect and understanding are at the heart of our conversations.

Board Game Close-Up

Ground Rules

In this group, we choose to:

  • Hold each other's stories with confidentiality.

  • Listen with compassion and without interruption.

  • Speak honestly from our own experience.

  • Offer presence before advice.

  • Respect differences and welcome every voice.

  • Honour silence as much as sharing.

  • Be kind—to ourselves and to one another.

  • Respect personal boundaries.

  • Help create a space where everyone can feel respected and supported.

What it is not

This isn't a counselling session, a place for judging or criticising others, or somewhere one person's voice is more important than another's.

We won't always agree, and that's absolutely fine. Different opinions and experiences are welcome, provided we share them with kindness and respect.

We're not here to fix one another or offer advice unless it's welcomed.

Your responsibility

This is your circle too, and everyone has a part to play in making it a welcoming and supportive space.

Come with an open mind, respect different perspectives and be mindful of your own boundaries and those of others.

Some conversations may bring up difficult emotions. You are always welcome to pause, take a break or choose not to share.

There is no pressure to speak, no expectation to have all the answers and no need to be anything other than yourself.

The Women's Circle is a free, facilitated space for connection, conversation and shared experiences. It is not a counselling or group therapy service.

We ask everyone attending to respect the privacy, experiences and boundaries of others. You are welcome to participate at your own pace, and there is never any pressure to share.

We aim to create a supportive and respectful environment, recognising that some conversations may bring up difficult emotions. Confidentiality is an important group agreement, although it cannot be absolutely guaranteed.

Booking

Please note: this is a peer-support and connection group rather than a therapeutic service, and that participants are asked to respect one another's privacy.
