Waking Moments

How do you feel when you first wake up? What are your first waking thoughts? Do you dread getting out of bed? Are your first thoughts negative? Are you thinking of yesterdays (last weeks, last months) problems or the problems that may lie ahead?

Rather than wake up feeling negative and not wanting to get out of bed, why not make a choice to change things? Here are a few tips you might like to try:

  1. Set yourelf up the night before, maybe with an object or picture of affirmation right next to you (on your bedside table). Something you can look at that brings happy, positive feelings. This also sets you up for a pleasant sleep. I like to fall asleep either listening to an uplifting meditation or desert island disks 😊.

  2. When you wake up are you holding tension in your body?. Scan your body for tension and release it.

  3. Do you have any ill feeling towards yourself or someone else? Can you find it within yourself to forgive and let go? If you cannot do that, can you just move it asside to give yourself space for gratitude?

  4. Congure up that feeling of gratitude – say a silent thank you for what you have. This might not mean saying a thank you for material wealth. It could be about saying thank you for your health, a smile someone gave you, your family, your friends, a warm bed, fresh water or a meal, something you are looking forward to doing, freedom. You can say thank you for the breath you breathe, the shining sun or the rain watering our plants. It can be anything you would like it to be, as long as the positive intent is there. It might sound like a cliche, however there is always something to smile about.

  5. Feel love, send it out to the people you love and the people in the world that might need it too; giving is such an important way to bring gratitude into our lives.

  6. Think about today – think about how you can make today a perfect day. Think about your positive intentions for the day.

  7. Don't touch your phone / device for a while, just be present with yourself, your thoughts and feelings.

  8. Maybe do your faviourite gratitude meditation - I do a five minute meditation most mornings as I'm sitting in my cold water tank in the garden (I know....😐).

  9. Before you jump out of bed, make sure you have a smile plastered on your face.

Set yourself up with positive intention and I invite you to carry those thoughts, feelings, images with you for the rest of your day.

Have a happy and healthy day. Much Love xxxx
